Australian Alps Walking Track (Namadgi section)
Guide updated · verify live track status with Parks ACT
Parks ACT: 650 km through Victoria, NSW and the ACT. Grade 5. Most people walk sections. The Namadgi section is also the current access to Booroomba Rocks while the road is closed. This page is not a full AAWT plan.
Do not pair: Do not invent a Namadgi thru-hike from this page.
Turnaround: Every section needs a written reverse. Fog is not a personality test.
- Treating Honeysuckle → Booroomba as “I am doing the AAWT” without food, maps or an exit.
- Grade 5 — remote multi-day
- 6–8 weeks for the whole AAWT; Namadgi days vary
- 650 km one way (full track) · Namadgi is one section
- Effort: hard
- Best for: Experienced, self-reliant parties linking Kosciuszko and the ACT high country
Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on Parks ACT walking tracks and with Namadgi Visitor Centre before you go.

Where you start
Section-dependent (Honeysuckle is the Namadgi example)
Plan on the Australian Alps National Parks AAWT site plus Parks ACT. Cotter catchment camping rules are not “free wild camp everywhere.”
How to get there
- Visitor Centre. Maps. Catchment permit rules. Do not start from a blog GPX alone.
How to do it (step by step)
- Walk a published section with an exit. Bush camping: prohibited in lower/middle Cotter Catchment; upper catchment by permit. Outside the catchment, pack camping is often allowed without a permit — VERIFY the Brief Guide.
- Huts are not booked beds.
Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not a shopping list on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · Booroomba road Plan B.

Extra tips
- Use this park’s day walks first. The AAWT is a different sport.
