Itineraries

These plans are built for real Canberra day trips and park overnights — drive time, unsealed roads, weather windows and energy included — not fantasy “Booroomba plus Gingera before lunch” checklists. Pick the plan that matches your group, then open it for a full timeline, packing notes and what to skip. Print from any plan page, or grab the free day-trip checklist (PDF / HTML) and the practical planner (PDF / HTML).

Every itinerary defers to Parks ACT for track status and alerts. Hard walks only appear where the plan names them — and only when official status is open.

Which plan fits you?

  • Half-day from Tharwa — first visit; Visitor Centre plus Woodland Walk or Cypress Pine. Not Gingera.
  • Booroomba day — Honeysuckle access while the road is closed; Grade 4 cliffs; Square Rock as Plan B.
  • Square Rock day — Corin Road granite; honest Plan B; Gibraltar Falls is closed.
  • Overnight Orroral — official booking only; valley morning; not Mount Clear with a camper trailer.
  • Gingera full day — first light; one start; written reverse time; not a Canberra afternoon.

If two plans both “sound good,” pick the shorter one. You can always upgrade on the ground; you cannot invent daylight on the highway home.

Itineraries FAQ

Tap a question to expand the answer.

Which itinerary should I print first?

First visit or mixed group: Half-day from Tharwa. Granite when Booroomba’s road is shut: Square Rock day. Closed-road Booroomba: Honeysuckle access plan. Overnight: Orroral. Gingera only if you will write a reverse time and start at first light.

Can I combine two itineraries in one day?

No. Each plan is already a full day or a protected half-day. Stacking Square Rock onto Gingera, or Booroomba onto a valley morning, is how groups finish Corin or Boboyan in the dark.

Is park entry free on these plans?

Yes. Parks ACT: admission is free. Camping is a separate booked fee. Phone 02 6237 5307 if the Parks ACT booking page fails. Never mix the two.
