Visitor Centre first — then one walk
Most rushed trips fail on Booroomba Rocks Road or on Gingera’s clock, not on the drive from Civic. Stop at Tharwa. Then pick one walk.

Booroomba Rocks
hardTall forest to massive granite cliffs and Brindabella panoramas. Parks ACT lists the walk open, but Booroomba Rocks Road is closed until further notice (alert 11 May 2026). Reach the track from Honeysuckle Campground via the Australian Alps Walking Track.

Mount Gingera
hardSecond-highest ACT peak (1,857 m). Parks ACT: snow gums, Pryors Hut, panoramic summit, last kilometre steep. Two official starts: Mt Franklin Road (14.5 km / 6 hours) or Stockyard Spur from Corin Dam (22 km / 8–9 hours, 700 m up and down).

Brindabella weather is not Civic weather
- Snow is common on the Brindabellas in winter; ice on granite is a veto.
- Limited or no mobile across most of Namadgi — 000 needs reception. Hire a PLB.
- Huts are day or emergency use — tent still needed if you overnight.
- Booroomba Rocks Road can close — check alerts, do not trust last year’s blog.
- Park entry is free; camping is a separate booked fee.

Visitor Centre, then one outdoor block: Woodland Walk or Cypress Pine Lookout. Yankee Hat only if you already have the road status and a 3-hour walking window. Not Gingera, not Booroomba-from-Honeysuckle.

While Booroomba Rocks Road is closed, Parks ACT sends walkers from Honeysuckle Campground via the AAWT — 10.5 km return / 4 hours to the top. Not the old 2.5 km car-park day. Cliffs. Grade 4.

Is there an entry fee for Namadgi National Park?
Parks ACT: admission is free. No day vehicle pass. Camping at Orroral, Honeysuckle and Mount Clear is a separate paid, booked system. Online bookings were still unavailable on re-check 26 Aug 2026 — phone Namadgi Visitor Centre 02 6237 5307.
How long from Canberra to Namadgi?
About 40 km / 45–60 minutes to the Visitor Centre at Tharwa. That is a capital day-trip for Yankee Hat or Cypress Pine Lookout — not for Mount Gingera (6–9 hours walking). See how long on Plan your visit.
What should I do first on a first visit?
Stop at Namadgi Visitor Centre. Then pick one: Yankee Hat (grassland + rock art), Cypress Pine Lookout, or Square Rock if you want granite and Booroomba’s road is still closed. Do not stack Gingera on the same afternoon.
Is weather really that different from Canberra?
Yes. Snow gums and granite ridges run colder and windier than Tuggeranong. Snow is common on the Brindabellas in winter. Check BOM Canberra plus Parks ACT alerts. This site does not show live closures.
